Houston Gay Wedding at Hotel Icon and Majestic Metro
From the start Tim and Stephen had a vision. They had considered the kinds of weddings they were seeing online, at a vineyard in California maybe, but ultimately decided it just wasn’t “them.” That’s actually really difficult for some couples. Raise your hand if you feel socially pressured to do your wedding a certain way.

After talking it through they decided the other kind of wedding would be nice, but their kind of wedding would be better. They picked up a copy of Love Wins Texas Weddings Magazine and discovered the Majestic Metro, a restored historic movie theater built in 1926. The seats on the first floor were removed so the space could host events. It’s got an awesome 1930’s vibe which was perfect for their Golden Age of Hollywood theme.

But before we get into the party, let’s talk attire. Tim and Stephen decided renting a suit wasn’t for them. Instead they scheduled a consultation at Balani and had matching, custom suits made! One of the sweetest details of the day was actually hidden within their suits. They share a sentiment with each other, “love you,” one will say, “love you more,” the other will chime. So hidden beneath the collars of their suit jackets, these sentiments were embroidered. You’ll also see it on the marquee at the Majestic Metro. I also died laughing at their socks. If you anticipate feeling the desire to be secretly unruly, their “carpe the f*** out of this diem” socks should be on your shopping list!

Since they are so nostalgic, they wanted to keep with an early 1900’s look, they decided to host their private ceremony a block away from the reception site, at Hotel Icon. You guys, this hotel!!! It was built in 1911 and used to be a bank. They even splurged on themselves and booked a gorgeous suite to get ready in. We had lots of room to move around, the light was stellar and it was such a handsome spot to prep for the day.

When it was go time, we headed downstairs for their ceremony which was performed in the Grandiose Parlor with just their immediate family and best friends present. After the ceremony we had A TON of time for formal family portraits and couple portraits. They really planned their day around two things: allowing meaningful time with their guests and alone time for photos of just the two of them. We had so much fun photographing in all the spots we had looked at during their venue walk-throughs.

Over at the Majestic Metro, as guests approached the front doors, they passed by large photos of the couple’s dog Beau in the movie poster boxes outside. Once inside, they were fully immersed into the golden age of Hollywood. At the ticket counter they picked up their escort card to find out which actor/actress they’d be “dining with.” Each table was draped in navy blue linens with gold cloth napkins and was named after a famous actor or actress, like Jimmy Stewart, Katherine Hepburn or Greta Garbo, and represented with one of their portraits. The centerpieces were handmade by a family member with old film spools.

Everything was on theme, but the cake topper. Their sweet flower girl had made them a Lego figurine of two grooms at an alter when she visited Legoland and the grooms knew right away it had to be their cake topper! It’s so fun to see meaningful details like this slipped into the day…whether or not they “fit” because if you love it, then it does fit. Guests took home cookies with a hand painted likeness of their little pup Beau.

I want to also shout out David Alcorta Catering. From the chicken and waffle appetizers to the fillet mignon with mushroom sauce and mascarpone mashed potatoes, our tastebuds where praising every delicious bite!

Thank you to Tim and Stephen for trusting me to capture your day. I hope this will inspire other couples to follow through with what fits their love.
