Oh my gosh! I’m finally at that point. There are going to be some fun and exciting updates around here.
When I started the re-brand of Degrees North Images I became perplexed about what to do with my Dawn Browne Photography side of the business. I’ve had a Dawn Browne Photography blog since I started photography in 2010. I was advised to keep my portrait and wedding photography separate from my art and photojournalism photography and at the time it made total sense to me to follow that advice. After all, my instructors had been in the photography business a lot longer than me!
I loved having a place to put my non-commercial/non-client photography, I loved my logo, I loved the whole idea of what I wanted to do with it. As Degrees North Images started to really grow and take shape, I became confused about what to do with all the great photos from my travels and adventures. Do I put them in my Dawn Browne Photography business, or in DNI? The whole point and idea about Degrees North Images is adventure in life and love. In fact, the tagline is “Where do your pictures take you?” I’ve got a section of the blog delegated to travel….
With the growing confusion and lines blurring, I stopped posting these images all together. Dawn Browne Photography went stagnant and no one was seeing all these treasures I had captured. I realized that the advice I received to keep art separate from clients was not working, not fitting for my goals and, in a way, it was cheating my peeps out of getting to see what I’m all about as a photographer, artist AND person. So with that, I’m going to be bringing a lot of new artistic content to Degrees North Images while I phase out Dawn Browne Photography. I’m a little sad to see it go, but I know it is for the best. It’s time to open all the doors and let some fresh perspective in!
In addition to combining my client and art photography, I’m also going to make prints and products of my art available for purchase. I had a store in the past, but the maintenance became overwhelming and I had to shut it down. Now, with the ease and awesomeness of my Shootproof storefront, I can create a separate gallery just for my art images! Don’t you love the idea of purchasing home decor right from the artist that created it?! I love that buyers will have to opportunity to know about the images they are decorating their homes with!!!
That being said, I hope that readers will be able to appreciate both sides of my work as I set sail on a refreshing new approach to sharing all that I love about people, the world and photography!
