I’m really excited to share this proposal, which actually took place on New Years Eve Day. Many of you know I freelance for Flytographer. I started in January last year, so it was really fun to get a New Years Eve proposal inquiry to close out my first year making travel memories with the company.
New Years Eve is very solidly in the depths of proposal season. According to WeddingWire, it’s the 5th most popular day to get engaged. For some it’s a day where they’ll be surrounded by family or friends, so it makes perfect sense to pop the question among a crowd of loving revelers. But for Andrew, it was all about the sentiments he wanted to share.
Andrew inquired through Flytographer and as soon as we confirmed the date and time he told his girlfriend, Wendy, that he won Flytographer’s Christmas contest and got a free shoot! Stealthy right?! We chose a location on Main, with a view overlooking the Houston cityscape. Since Wendy is from Tulsa and Andrew is from New York, we felt like there was a balance at this location. He was really prepared and let us know that New Years Eve was crucial because, “I want to tell her how she’ll be the most important part of my new year and every year thereafter.”
On the day of the proposal we met in the late afternoon. It was cold for Houston, but the rain we had been having seemed to clear out and even the clouds were parting to allow some sun. We walked over to the proposal location (right by the University of Houston Downtown Metro Rail stop) while we chatted about New Years plans. Once I got them situated and took a few photos, I gave Andrew the signal that I was ready. He went down on his knee and, you guys, I honestly don’t know what he said because I was getting those big sweeping photos, but I know she said yes!
After we gathered ourselves, we meandered down Main St. and over to Market Square Park, stopping along the way for photos here and there. The city was surprisingly quiet for such a festive holiday, but we didn’t care. It felt like we had the city all to ourselves.
