I’m always curious about how people pick the places they vacation. While some locales might seem like super obvious destinations for almost everyone (lookin at you Orlando, Paris, Sydney), others are more obscure.

Last month I shared two different posts about Mackinac Island. This is a well known vacation spot to anyone in Michigan, but step outside that corner of the midwest and people are less likely to know about it. That’s kind of what Galveston is to Texas!

So when I found out Cynthia and Thomas were visiting the island from Canada, I had to know what made them choose a fall beach getaway in Galveston over more popular choices in the states, like Charleston and Destin. Turns out, they had seen some home renovation shows that featured Galveston houses. When it came time to plan their family vacation they remembered the shows and how pretty they thought the island looked and they booked their trip!

When I met them at their rented beach house they had already been in town a few days and enjoying the island life. Their oldest daughter was living for splashing in the ocean and looking for shells. Having come from the north myself and remembering how excited I was to hit the Florida beaches as a kid, this little sweetie and I hit it off. Even their littlest family member seemed to revel in the feeling of having her toes in the warm, wet sand.
