Raise your hand if you can’t maintain stillness when Dancing Queen comes on the radio. (Frantically wails hand around in the air). If you’ve dreamed of being a member of Donna and the Dynamos, even for just one night and one night only, then this post is for you!
10 years ago Mamma Mia took the movie world by storm. Couples soon flocked to the Greek Island of Skopelos known as Kalokairi in the musical to experience it for themselves. I have no shame and will admit to seeing it twice in one weekend (#sorrynotsorry). With the sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, reviving my shameless obsession, I wanted to celebrate with an Mamma Mia wedding inspiration shoot for fellow fans!
I got together with some awesome, island loving vendors in southeast Texas and we created a quirky and elegant Greek Isles shoot, Mamma Mia style. Waters Edge wedding venue in El Lago, TX served as our Villa Donna. In keeping with the color scheme famous on the islands, we chose cobalt blue as our base color and added in hot pink with touches of white.
To announce this fun celebration, graphic designer Brianne from Bee Creative Company, imagined a beautiful watercolor floral motif with calligraphy. I wrote the invitation copy to include lots of fun ABBA song references and we printed them on watercolor paper to add texture.
Who’s That Girl? Weddings and Events was the overall designer and coordinator for the shoot. I simply gave her an inspiration board and she brought my idea to life, choosing the perfect creative team of vendors. On Cloud9 Event Rentals brought in the gorgeous and fun linens. In addition to the color, I love the texture and swirl pattern on our table linen. They also brought the cool blue stemware that made the table feel welcoming and casual.
Blushing Blooms Floral constructed the show stopping centerpiece. Tall centerpieces are a great choice for round tables because allows your guests to converse without having to try to see around a large, low arrangement. They also crafted the beautiful bridal bouquet. In keeping with the wild flower look of the bouquet Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) carries in the movie, they utilized a neutral color palette.
The cake, one of my favorite elements from the shoot, was imagined by Sweet Blue Bakery. The deep blue damask pattern went all the way around the cake and the addition of the hydrangea added a touch of softness.
Our real life couple Priscilla and Cray knocked it out of the park. Priscilla wore a white halter Carrafina gown from Carrie’s Bridal Collection. Hair and makeup kept with the natural, wind swept look you’re sure to find at an island wedding. Cray wore a blue sport coat from The Ivy League Mens Shop for the formal aspects of the day and later dressed down to a white dress shirt. To close out the shoot, we had a little fun with a dive mask and some bright pink SCUBA fins (if you’ve seen the movie you know what this references) and our Donna and the Dynamos wedding signage!
I’m so excited I was finally able to bring this Mamma Mia wedding idea to fruition. I hope it inspires all of my fellow dancing queens (and kings) out there!
